Tax time! Here in Georgia, we just received the assessments on our real estate property with taxes due between July and October. You probably noticed that huge increase in your tax bill and are choking on it! You can certainly file an appeal but since most counties reassessed, your neighbors homes are valued at the same amount so you may not be able to convince the tax commissioners to lower your taxes. Bah, humbug.
However, make sure you are writing to your county and tax commissioners letting them know how you feel – but in a nice way, please. Most home owners never write to their commissioner so they think their constituents are just fine and dandy. In theory, for every 1 person that expresses their thoughts, politicians say it is equal to 10,000 constituents. So, as you can see, it is extremely important to write your politicians and let them know how you feel.
