This year’s Marietta Square Oktoberfest — also known as Chalktoberfest — was an unforgettable weekend full of color, creativity, and community. I spent the afternoon walking through downtown Marietta, where the streets had been transformed into a giant outdoor art gallery. More than 80 professional chalk artists from around the country were there, creating everything from lifelike 3-D murals to whimsical designs right on the pavement.
Saturday’s event included the craft beer and wine tasting, which brought an energetic crowd and plenty of local flavor. With more than 120 craft beers and about 25 wines and seltzers to sample, there was something for everyone. The tasting area was lively but relaxed, with live music in the background and food vendors scattered around the Square serving everything from barbecue to funnel cakes.
On Sunday, the energy shifted to a more family-friendly atmosphere. The community chalk competition invited kids, parents, and local artists to take part, and it was great to see the sidewalks filled with everyone’s creativity. Even without participating, just walking around and watching the designs come to life was inspiring.
What I love most about this event is how it brings people together. The festival supports the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, and you could really feel that community connection throughout the weekend. It’s one of those local traditions that reminds me why Marietta’s downtown is such a special place — historic charm, local art, and friendly faces everywhere you turn.
If you’ve never been, I highly recommend planning ahead for next year. Come early, wear comfortable shoes, and take your time strolling through the Square. Whether you’re there for the art, the music, or the craft beer, you’ll leave with a smile — and probably a little chalk dust on your shoes.
